Solstice: A Magazine of Diverse Voices
Open nowAbout the magazine
Editorial focus
Solstice is committed to publishing works by diverse authors, and writers on the margins. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. It publishes poetry, poetry in translation, fiction, nonfiction, and graphic literature, as well as photography. It is open for two reading periods during the year: one for general submissions (August 1 to March 31) and another for its Annual Literary Contest (April 1 to June 1).
Submitting your work
Solstice welcomes submissions from writers of all backgrounds, with a particular interest in work that engages with issues of identity, culture, and social justice. Before submitting, read several recent issues to understand the magazine's aesthetic range—it favors work that is both emotionally resonant and formally accomplished. Poetry submissions should include 3-5 poems in a single file. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify the magazine immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. Response times vary from 2-6 months, so plan accordingly. Solstice does not charge submission fees for general submissions, though occasional contests may have a fee. Always include a brief cover letter with your publication history, if any, and a short bio. The editors value concise, well-crafted work over lengthy explanations.
