About the magazine

Star 82 Review is a literary and arts journal founded in 2013 by editor and writer Alisa Golden. Emerging from Golden's background in book arts and her interest in the intersection of text and image, the journal takes its name from a star in the constellation Cygnus, reflecting a guiding ethos of navigation and discovery. It publishes poetry, short prose, and visual art that often blurs boundaries between the written and the visual, with a particular affinity for hybrid and experimental work. The journal is known for its carefully designed issues, which are available in print and digital formats, and for its commitment to presenting work that is both accessible and formally inventive. Its core mission is to provide a welcoming yet discerning space for voices that might not fit neatly into traditional literary categories.

Editorial focus

Star 82 Review is a full-color, online and print magazine. Each issue may feature microfiction and creative nonfiction, erasure texts, narrative art, word and image, and poetry, including haibun and prose. Think of nearly family friendly, gentle works filled with humility, humanity and humor that merge the strange with the familiar.

Before submitting, read several back issues to understand the journal's aesthetic, which favors concise, image-rich, and often playful or contemplative work. Star 82 Review accepts poetry, flash fiction, and visual art, including hybrid forms. Submissions are typically open year-round, but check the website for specific reading periods. Send up to five poems or three prose pieces (under 500 words each) and up to five images. Include a brief bio and note any prior publications. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify immediately if work is placed elsewhere. The journal values careful proofreading and a clear sense of how text and image might interact on the page. Response times vary, so patience is appreciated.

Please see the submissions page for submissions email. Paste work into body of email. NO attachments. When submitting, please include a print-ready fifty to seventy-five word bio that contains what you do, three publications max, if applicable (no long lists!), no award nominations, your geographical location, website, and one outside area of interest. Cover letters are nice, but not necessary. 12-point standard typeface, pasted into the body of the email. Written works under 750 words only (shorter works much preferred!). Artwork tells a story or creates a mood, leaving space for the viewer (landscapes, animals, and/or objects are suggested).
