About the magazine

The Cicada's Cry is an online poetry journal founded on the conviction that poetry thrives in the spaces between sound and silence. Taking its name from the insect whose song defines summer afternoons, the journal seeks work that resonates with a similar insistence—poems that emerge from quiet attention yet refuse to be ignored. Since its inception, it has operated as a remote, editor-run publication, prioritizing the poem itself over poetic persona. Its mission is to provide a home for verse that is formally alert, emotionally precise, and unafraid of the small, the strange, or the unadorned.

Submitting your work

Reading periodVaries

Read several issues before submitting to understand the journal's range, which favors precision over performance. Send 3–5 poems in a single document, with a brief cover letter that omits biography in favor of any necessary context for the work. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable if you withdraw promptly upon acceptance elsewhere. Expect a response time of one to three months; do not query before then. The editors value poems that reward re-reading, so trust revision over volume.
