About the magazine

The Paris-American is an online literary journal founded in 2011 by poet and editor C. L. O'Rourke. It emerged from a desire to create a transatlantic space for poetry that is both formally alert and emotionally immediate, bridging the French and American literary traditions. The journal publishes poems, translations, and occasional essays, with a particular interest in work that engages with the Francophone world. Its mission is to foster a community of readers and writers who value clarity, musicality, and intellectual curiosity over trend or affiliation.

Editorial focus

The Paris-American ’s mission is to unite talented emerging poets and established poets on the same stage, while also serving as a weekly e-zine for new poetry.

The Paris-American accepts submissions of poetry and translations via email during reading periods announced on its website. Poets should send 3-5 poems in a single attachment (PDF or DOCX) with a brief cover letter. Translations should include the original text and proof of permission from the rights holder. The journal values precision, musicality, and a sense of emotional stakes; it is less interested in work that relies on irony or obscurity for its own sake. Response times can be slow, so patience is advised. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify immediately if your work is placed elsewhere.
