About the magazine

Tiger Moth Review is an independent literary and arts journal founded in 2019 by a collective of writers and artists seeking a space for work that resists easy categorization. The journal takes its name from the tiger moth—a creature known for its striking patterns and brief, intense life—and applies that sensibility to its pages: favoring writing and visual art that is vivid, ephemeral, and unafraid of beauty or strangeness. With an editorial ethos rooted in close reading and sustained attention, Tiger Moth Review publishes two issues per year, each pairing poetry, short prose, and hybrid texts with a small portfolio of visual artists. The journal has no institutional affiliation and operates as a volunteer-run enterprise, which allows it to remain agile and responsive to the work it receives rather than to market trends.

Editorial focus

The Tiger Moth Review publishes poetry, prose, art and photography that engage with the themes of nature, culture, the environment and ecology. Send them work that is eco-conscious and critical, work that celebrates the beauty/bounty of nature, work that is cognizant, curious and contemplative of the relationships between humanity, modernity, cultures, and the environments in which one lives in or imagines themselves to inhabit. Thanks to a generous sponsor, they are able to offer a modest honorarium of SGD 75 to contributors of Issue 15.

Before submitting, read at least one full issue to understand the journal's range and rhythm—Tiger Moth Review favors work that trusts the reader and avoids over-explanation. Submit only during announced reading periods, which are posted on the website and social media; simultaneous submissions are accepted if noted, but please withdraw promptly if accepted elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter that speaks to your practice rather than a list of accolades, and send no more than five poems or one prose piece under 3,000 words. For visual art, send a single PDF with 5–8 low-resolution images and a corresponding image list. Response times average 4–6 weeks; if you have not heard back after three months, a polite query is welcome.
