About the magazine

Time of Singing is a literary journal founded in 1993 with a clear, devotional mission: to publish poetry that engages with themes of faith, spirituality, and the human condition. While rooted in Christian tradition, the journal welcomes a broad range of voices that explore the sacred without dogmatism. Its longevity reflects a consistent commitment to lyrical craft and sincere expression, offering a counterpoint to more secular or experimental literary magazines. The journal appears both in print and online, maintaining a steady presence in the small-press poetry ecosystem.

Editorial focus

TOS is published by Wind & Water Press, and its purpose is to provide a market for literary Christian poetry, with “Christian” defined in the widest sense. Free verse and all forms are welcome. TOS encourages poets to take chances and write outside religious and theological boxes, wrestle with the important questions in faith, and challenge the reader to rethink their assumptions. Sermons that rhyme and greeting card-style poems are not accepted. If you have been published in TOS you may submit your book/chapbook for a review in the Fall issue.

Poets should submit work that is clear, heartfelt, and technically polished, with themes that resonate with faith or spiritual inquiry. Avoid irony or experimental fragmentation that obscures meaning. Review past issues to understand the journal's tone, and follow submission guidelines carefully—simultaneous submissions are often accepted, but notify promptly if work is placed elsewhere. Response times can be slow, so patience is advised.

Please study the craft, and remember this is literary style poetry, not canned rhyme or sermons in poem form. Show me, don't tell me. Be open to critique. I know what’s best for my readers. If you don’t agree, submit elsewhere. It’s helpful to pick up a back copy to see what style the editor is looking for. Cover letter not needed, unless you want to list important credits. Your work will speak for itself. Please send submissions to [email protected] or with SASE to TOS at the address below.
