About the magazine
TINGE Magazine is a literary journal that has been published by the MFA program in Creative Writing at Temple University since 2007. Founded with the aim of showcasing both emerging and established voices, the magazine has maintained a commitment to publishing poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction that is formally adventurous and emotionally resonant. Its pages reflect a curatorial ethos that values risk-taking and craft, often featuring work that blurs genre boundaries or engages with contemporary social and political concerns. Over the years, TINGE has become a vital part of Philadelphia's literary landscape, bridging the academic and the public spheres through readings, workshops, and its biannual issues.

Writers should familiarize themselves with recent issues to understand the magazine's aesthetic range, which favors work that is both intellectually curious and accessible. Submissions are typically open during reading periods announced on the website and social media; simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but notify promptly if work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with publication credits, if any, and adhere strictly to genre guidelines—poetry up to five poems, fiction and nonfiction up to 5,000 words. Response times vary, so patience is advised. TINGE values diverse perspectives and encourages submissions from underrepresented voices.
We do not have any specific aesthetic criteria, except to say that we seek pieces of exceptional literary quality, not genre work.
