Editorial focus
true publishes essays and writing on the craft of nonfiction in its many forms, as well as reviews, interviews, and criticism. The editors are especially interested in the intersection of reporting and narrative; how nonfiction is and isn’t different from other genres; how true stories can be made compelling; and explorations of highly reflective, emotional, and layered work that exposes a truth about shared experiences in an exulting and punishing world.
Submitting your work
Writers should familiarize themselves with true's content to understand its tone and scope. Submissions should be polished, original, and align with the magazine's focus on craft, culture, and critical reflection. It is advisable to read the submission guidelines carefully and to send work that demonstrates a clear voice and a thoughtful approach to the subject matter. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but prompt notification of acceptance elsewhere is expected.
