Tupelo Quarterly publishes work by emerging and established writers and artists of many sensibilities and styles.
Submitting your work
Before submitting, read several recent issues to understand the journal's aesthetic range and editorial preferences. Tupelo Quarterly welcomes simultaneous submissions but asks that you notify them immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. They accept poetry, fiction, nonfiction, translation, and visual art, with specific guidelines for each genre available on their website. Submissions are typically open year-round, but response times can vary from a few weeks to several months. Include a brief cover letter with your publication history, if any, and ensure your work is previously unpublished. For translations, include the original text and proof of permission. The journal values work that is polished, original, and emotionally or intellectually resonant.
In addition to a stunning poem or story on the page, we want to include work that takes full advantage of the medium. We want to honor the art as received, and to extend the scope of what a literary journal can do. Tupelo Quarterly cultivates generous artistic community, celebrates intellectual curiosity and creative risk, and presumes abundance. We hold the gate open, not closed.
