About the magazine

Unwashed is an artist-run project space and collective based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Founded in 2020, it emerged from a desire to create an accessible, non-hierarchical platform for emerging and underrepresented artists. The organization focuses on experimental and process-oriented work, often hosting exhibitions, performances, and community events that challenge traditional gallery models. Its ethos is rooted in DIY ethics, mutual support, and a commitment to fostering a local and national network of artists who prioritize exploration over commercial viability.

Editorial focus

Unwashed is an annual creative writing and art journal published in Bay View, Wisconsin. The journal seeks previously unpublished creative fiction and nonfiction, poetry, and black-and-white art (including photography)—traditional, experimental, and everything in between is welcome. Selected writers and artists will receive a complimentary copy of the journal.
