Verse-Virtual is an online poetry journal founded in 2014 by a collective of poets seeking a responsive, non-hierarchical publishing model. It operates without a formal editorial board, instead relying on a rotating group of contributing editors who curate monthly issues. The journal emphasizes accessibility, community, and the democratization of poetic discourse, publishing a wide range of contemporary voices from established writers to emerging poets. Its core mission is to foster a virtual gathering place where poetry is shared, discussed, and celebrated free from commercial pressures.

Editorial focus

Verse-Virtual is both an online community and journal that has been published monthly since June 2014, with only a couple of exceptions. The emphasis of the community is on kindness and civility. Readers are encouraged to email authors to let them know when they like a particular poem, which leads to conversations and friendships.

Poets should review several monthly issues to understand the journal's broad aesthetic, which favors clarity, emotional resonance, and craft over experimental formalism. Submissions are typically open year-round via email, with guidelines posted on the website. Include a brief bio and 3-5 poems in the body of the email; simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify promptly upon acceptance elsewhere. Response times vary, often within a few weeks.

Failure to follow submission guidelines is the most frequent reason for submissions being rejected. We have a monthly cap on submissions of forty and if that is reached before the 10th of the month, submissions close early.
