About the magazine

Voices/1922 Review is a literary journal rooted in the aftermath of the modernist watershed year 1922, taking its name from that annus mirabilis. Founded by a collective of writers and scholars, it seeks to extend the experimental and internationalist spirit of that era into contemporary practice. The journal publishes fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry that engage with the legacies of modernism—whether through formal innovation, historical interrogation, or cross-cultural dialogue. Its mission is to provide a discerning platform for work that is both artistically ambitious and critically aware, avoiding mere pastiche in favor of genuine dialogue with the past.

Submitting your work

Reading periodVaries

Before submitting, read at least one recent issue to understand the journal's aesthetic and intellectual commitments. The editors favor work that demonstrates a serious engagement with literary tradition, whether through homage, critique, or radical departure. Avoid generic submissions that could fit any magazine; instead, highlight how your work converses with the modernist legacy. For the 1922 Review-Prose call, fiction and creative nonfiction should be under 5,000 words, and simultaneous submissions are accepted with prompt notification of acceptance elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter that contextualizes your submission within the journal's mission. Response times vary, but expect 3-6 months; query only after six months.
