About the magazine

Wallstrait is an online platform and curatorial project founded to support emerging and mid-career artists through open calls, digital exhibitions, and editorial features. Its ethos centers on providing a low-barrier, high-visibility space for experimental practices that might otherwise struggle to find institutional footing. By operating primarily online, Wallstrait prioritizes accessibility and international participation, aiming to foster a community of artists who value process, dialogue, and critical feedback over commercial polish.

Editorial focus

Wallstrait is all about publishing quality, hard-to-define fiction and treating writers right. They love discovering and championing great fiction across all genres, especially bold stories that don’t quite fit the aesthetic of other journals. They don’t have any demands on style or genre. If they love it, they’ll publish it. They aim to be one of the fastest-responding journals out there and provide feedback as time allows. They publish triweekly and pay $100 upon publication.

Artists should approach Wallstrait with a clear, concise artist statement and a focused selection of recent work that demonstrates a coherent line of inquiry. Since the platform emphasizes process and dialogue, include brief context about your research or experimentation. Ensure your submission follows the specific call guidelines, as thematic fit is prioritized over sheer volume. Keep digital files optimized for online viewing, and be prepared for a response timeline that reflects a small, curatorial team.

No limitations on genre. Just send us your best fiction. We publish a new story every three weeks. Help us keep our readers on their toes. 500 to 3,000 words is our preferred range, but you can submit up to 5,000 words maximum.
