About the magazine

Waymark Literary Magazine is a independent publication founded in 2015 with the aim of providing a platform for emerging and underrepresented voices in contemporary literature. The magazine publishes poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction that prioritize linguistic precision, emotional depth, and formal experimentation. Its core mission is to foster a community of writers who value craft over trend, and to offer readers work that challenges and rewards close attention.

Editorial focus

At Kennesaw State, Waymark is the English department’s undergraduate literary magazine. The publication is run by undergraduate students and welcomes submissions online from any undergraduate in the United States and its territories.

Waymark accepts submissions year-round via its online portal. Writers should submit up to five poems or one prose piece (under 5,000 words) at a time. The magazine values work that demonstrates a clear command of language and a willingness to take risks. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Response times typically range from four to eight weeks. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, but avoid lengthy biographical summaries; focus on the work itself.

We especially encourage writers from minority communities to submit their works, as well as first generation college students. We publish our annual magazine digitally to create a fully accessible reading experience for anyone on the literary path.
