Editorial focus
WayWords is a quarterly literary journal welcoming work from writers around the world in all stages of their writing career. Each issue invites writers to explore a different theme. Editors want to see fresh, inspiring pieces that give them chills and fill them with awe.
Submitting your work
Before submitting, familiarize yourself with WayWords' aesthetic and social values by reading past publications or attending a workshop. They prioritize work that demonstrates a clear investment in personal or communal transformation, so avoid sending polished but emotionally detached pieces. Cover letters should briefly state your connection to their mission and your writing process. Simultaneous submissions are generally acceptable, but notify them promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere. Response times can be slow due to volunteer staffing, so patience is essential. Most importantly, treat the submission as part of a dialogue, not a transaction—WayWords values writers who engage with their community beyond the page.
Writers should interpret the listed theme. Editors provide a new tip for each quarterly open call. Two to three upcoming themes are also listed on the WayWords page.
