Editorial focus
Whitefish Review is a nationally acclaimed journal that celebrates wild rivers, mountains, and the wide-open spaces of Montana and beyond to help create a more sustainable world through the power of art and literature. Whitefish Review has been recognized for its interviews with John Irving, David Letterman, Tom Brokaw, Jimmy Kimmel, Terry Tempest Williams, and more. Doug Peacock called it, “One of the most refreshing journals to hit the literary scene in years.” The journal offers the annual $1,000 Montana Prize for Fiction and Montana Prize for Humor.
Submitting your work
Whitefish Review accepts submissions of fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and art during specific reading periods, typically announced on its website and social media. Writers should familiarize themselves with recent issues to understand the journal's aesthetic, which favors vivid, place-attentive work that avoids cliché. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but notify promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, and adhere strictly to genre guidelines (e.g., word limits for prose, up to five poems). The editors appreciate concise, well-crafted pieces that resonate with the journal's thematic interests, but they are open to unexpected interpretations. Response times vary, so patience is advised; do not query before the stated period has elapsed. Above all, proofread meticulously—the Review values clean, professional presentation.
Art is all forms that strives for excellence is the only criteria. Tell us a story that we will wake up thinking about the next day.
