About the magazine

The Woorilla Poetry Prize is a long-standing Australian literary award based in the Dandenong Ranges, Victoria. Founded in 1989 by the Woorilla Poetry Group, it was established to honour and sustain the craft of poetry within the local community and beyond. The prize has grown to include multiple categories, such as the Louise Rockne Youth Section, reflecting a commitment to nurturing poets at all stages of their development. Its core mission is to encourage poetic excellence, provide a platform for both emerging and established voices, and foster a vibrant literary culture in the region.

Submitting your work

Reading periodVaries

Poets should carefully review the current guidelines on the Woorilla website, noting category-specific requirements such as the Louise Rockne Youth Section for poets aged 5–18. Ensure poems are original, unpublished, and adhere to theme or length restrictions. Multiple entries are permitted in some categories, but fees apply. Submit via the specified method, typically online or by post, and include all required details. Proofread meticulously; presentation matters. The judges appreciate authentic voice and technical skill over trendiness.
