So to Speak: VISUAL ART Print Issue
Overview
So to Speak, a publication with a stated commitment to intersectional feminism, is assembling a print issue of visual art. The call is open to artists of all backgrounds and experiences, with a particular emphasis on work that is implicitly or explicitly intersectional. The journal's curatorial framework favors art that challenges politically, emotionally, and spiritually, and it explicitly welcomes both traditional and experimental mediums—from digital drawings and oil paintings to sculptural works and comics. There is no requirement for classical training; the editors prioritize compelling, rigorous work over credentials. The scope of the issue is defined by its exclusions: video and audio-based work are not eligible. All other visual media are considered. Artists may submit up to five pieces per submission period, whether as a single entry or multiple entries. Each contributor whose work is selected will receive a $100 prize. The submission fee is $4.00 USD, and the deadline is November 1, 2026. The curatorial vision is signaled by the artists the editors admire—Amy Sherald, Tschabalala Self, Sasha Gordon, Ana Mendieta, Jenna Gribbon, and Martha Rosler—figures whose practices engage with identity, the body, politics, and material experimentation. The issue will likely favor work that is visually assertive, conceptually engaged, and unafraid of color, collage, or overt political themes. This is a print platform for artists who treat image-making as a critical and expressive act.
