Dappled Things — Submissions
Overview
Dappled Things is a quarterly magazine committed to publishing literature and art that engages with the Catholic imagination. Since its founding, the journal has provided a platform for writers whose work explores the sacramental and the transcendent, without sacrificing literary rigor. The magazine takes its name from Gerard Manley Hopkins's poem 'Pied Beauty,' signaling its interest in the particular, the variegated, and the incarnational. The journal publishes fiction, poetry, and nonfiction, and is open to both established and emerging writers. While rooted in a Catholic sensibility, Dappled Things welcomes submissions from writers of all faiths or none, provided the work demonstrates a serious engagement with the themes and questions that animate the Catholic literary tradition. The editors are attentive to craft, originality, and depth of vision. Submissions are read year-round, with a deadline of February 1, 2027, for the next reading period. The magazine does not charge a submission fee, though this is subject to change. Contributors can expect a careful review of their work and, if accepted, publication in a beautifully designed print and digital journal with a dedicated readership.
