The Shine of Our Eyes: Residency Programme Open Call (Armenia)
Overview
Typography Collective and curatorial duo League of Tenders present The Shine of Our Eyes, a residency programme scheduled for May 2027 in Yerevan, Armenia. The initiative centers on traditional Armenian craft practices—carpet weaving, dyeing, ornamentation, and embroidery—while seeking to expand their interpretation through decolonial and feminist frameworks. By facilitating exchange between local masters and international artists, the residency aims to reposition these heritage techniques within contemporary art discourse, where they are often marginalized. The programme is designed for visual artists, with a particular emphasis on women and non-binary practitioners working with craft. Over one month, selected residents will immerse themselves in Armenian traditions, learning directly from masters and engaging in reciprocal knowledge exchange. The organisers envision a dialogue that weaves translocal and transcultural meanings, allowing participants to integrate these practices into their own work while contributing to a broader conversation about craft as a living, evolving form. This open call, offered at no application fee, is a rare opportunity for artists to deepen their engagement with material histories and to challenge dominant narratives. The residency does not provide a stipend or prize; instead, it offers the invaluable experience of hands-on learning, cultural exchange, and the development of new work within a supportive, critically engaged community. Artists legally residing in Creative Europe countries are eligible to apply.
