Nordic Council of Ministers: New Programme Nordic Currents 2027–2028 Open Call
Overview
Nordic Currents is a new international culture initiative convened by the Nordic Council of Ministers for 2027–2028, framed around trust, openness, artistic freedom, and democratic values. Rather than a prize or a residency, it is a programme of support for projects that move audiences, deepen relationships, and create lasting connections across borders. The call is directed at established cultural organisations in European countries neighbouring the Nordic region—primarily Belgium, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United Kingdom—inviting them to join forces with Nordic partners. Eligible applicants include cultural organisations, institutions, promoters, festivals, and producers, as well as embassies and diplomatic missions working in cooperation with arts and culture stakeholders. A defining structural requirement is that applicants must have a minimum of two partners from different Nordic countries who will be active throughout the project. This is not a solo-artist grant; it is an institutional and cross-border collaboration framework, and the application is assessed on the strength and sustainability of those partnerships as much as on the artistic proposition. The programme's curatorial vision is relational: it seeks projects that generate genuine exchange and durable connections rather than one-off presentations. There is no application fee, and the deadline is rolling, which places the emphasis on readiness and fit rather than on a single submission window. Prospective applicants should treat the call as an invitation to design a project with real institutional commitment on both the Nordic and neighbouring-country sides, and to articulate how the collaboration will outlast the funding period.
