The Image Centre — Research Fellowships

Overview
Since 2014, The Image Centre has offered a variety of fellowships for research related to photography. These fellowships provide scholars and practitioners with the opportunity to engage deeply with the Centre's collections and resources, fostering critical inquiry into the history, theory, and practice of photography and film. The Image Centre, based at Toronto Metropolitan University, is a leading institution dedicated to the study and exhibition of photography. Its research fellowships are designed to support projects that will benefit from access to its extensive holdings, which include the Black Star Collection and other significant archives. Fellows are expected to produce original research that contributes to the field. While specific terms vary by fellowship, the program typically offers a stipend, workspace, and access to the Centre's collections and staff. The fellowships are intended for scholars, curators, and artists at various career stages, with a demonstrated need for primary research. The Centre seeks proposals that are rigorously conceived and align with its mission to advance photographic scholarship.
