Callaloo — General Submissions — Scholarly Articles
Overview
Callaloo stands as a foundational journal for creative work by and critical studies of African Americans and peoples of African descent throughout the African Diaspora. Its general submissions for scholarly articles represent an ongoing commitment to rigorous, peer-reviewed inquiry that engages the aesthetic, historical, and political dimensions of Black expressive cultures. The journal's scope is deliberately expansive, encompassing literary criticism, cultural studies, and interdisciplinary scholarship that traverses the Diaspora. For this call, Callaloo seeks articles of up to 6,000 words, excluding abstract and references. Manuscripts must be double-spaced and submitted as Word documents, with identifying information removed from the manuscript, submission title, and file name to ensure blind review. An abstract and keywords are required both in the cover letter and at the top of the manuscript. The journal follows the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing, requiring a works cited and endnotes rather than footnotes. Authors are responsible for securing permissions for any images or other materials in advance of publication. The journal accepts scholarly work with multiple authors, though the submission system may require a single corresponding submitter. There is no fee to submit. Callaloo's editorial vision is one of intellectual seriousness and diasporic breadth, welcoming scholarship that deepens our understanding of Black cultural production across geographies and disciplines.
