Atlantic Center for the Arts — Larry Mitchell, Residency 199

Overview
Atlantic Center for the Arts (ACA) is a longstanding residency program that brings together artists across disciplines for intensive, process-driven work. Residency 199 is led by Larry Mitchell, a guitarist whose practice spans performance, sound design, and production. The residency is structured around daily engagement with music-making, including evening jam sessions Monday through Friday, and is designed for intermediate to advanced guitarists working with sound, texture, and technique. The program addresses the full arc of creative production: pedalboard and gear configuration, recording and engineering, microphone selection, DAW choices, templates, and audio interfaces. Mitchell's stated focus is on cultivating self-sufficiency and a disciplined creative space—helping participants move past option paralysis and self-doubt to capture musical ideas with clarity. The residency is not oriented toward finished product alone but toward the habits and technical fluency that sustain a working practice. ACA residencies typically provide time, space, and access to a community of artists. Scholarships may be available, and the application fee is $25. The residency is three weeks in duration, offering sustained immersion rather than a brief workshop. Artists should expect a rigorous, collaborative environment where daily playing and exchange are central.
