Scribendi — Open Media

Overview
Scribendi's Open Media category is an institutional response to a persistent problem in arts publishing: the work that falls between categories. Film, music, graphic novels, textile arts, graphic design, web design, video games, fashion, and architecture are named explicitly, but the category's logic is expansive rather than enumerative. It exists for practitioners whose work cannot be adequately framed by the magazine's existing disciplinary rubrics, and it carries a corresponding editorial seriousness: submissions that do fit an established category will be redirected or declined, not accommodated here. The review process is blind. No name may appear on the work itself or in the application form's "Title" field; the sole permitted location for identification is the "Name" field. This is not a formality. It is the structural condition of the jury's reading, and it determines how the work will be encountered: on its own terms, without the framing of reputation, biography, or institutional affiliation. Film submissions may warrant limited exceptions regarding on-screen credits, and applicants with questions about name inclusion are directed to contact Scribendi staff as outlined in the General Guidelines for Submission. There is no submission fee. The magazine does not publish a prize or stipend in connection with this call, and no location is specified. What the category offers is publication within a juried editorial context and the discipline of a blind review — an invitation to submit work that has not yet found its proper frame, and to let the work itself carry the argument for its inclusion.
