So to Speak — POETRY 2027 Print Issue
Overview
So to Speak, an intersectional feminist literary magazine, is currently reading for its 2027 print issue. The journal's editorial stance is rooted in a commitment to lifelong learning and an acknowledgment that systems, institutions, identities, and places do not operate uniformly. They seek poetry that aligns with this perspective, challenges understandings of form and language, explores new landscapes, and speaks its own embodied truth. The editors are drawn to poems that engage, challenge, and surprise, particularly those that tackle multiple intersections of race, class, ability, sexuality, and/or gender identity, and that commit fully to chosen images and structures. The aesthetic coordinates of the issue are signaled by the editors' stated admiration for poets such as Claudia Rankine, Layli Long-Soldier, Mary Szybist, Don Mee Choi, Louise Glück, Sylvia Plath, and Mary Oliver. This constellation suggests a curatorial interest in work that is formally adventurous, emotionally precise, and politically awake—poetry that does not shy away from the personal or the systemic. Contributors selected for the print issue will receive a $100 prize. Submissions are open until November 2, 2026, and require a $4 fee. Applicants must submit up to five poems in a single .doc, .docx, or .pdf file, not exceeding ten pages, along with a cover letter. The journal's mandate is explicitly intersectional and feminist, and it welcomes poets of all genders who share its commitment to examining power, identity, and form.
