About the organization

Dark Matter: Women Witnessing is an online journal founded in 2014 by Lise Weil, dedicated to publishing writing and visual art that bears witness to the crises of our time—ecological, political, and spiritual—from perspectives often marginalized or suppressed. The journal emerged from a desire to create a space for women's voices that engage with the unseen, the erased, and the emergent, drawing on feminist, ecological, and decolonial thought. Its mission is to foster a community of witness, where art and writing serve as acts of resistance and reclamation, illuminating what is often relegated to the shadows.

Areas of practice

Dark Matter: Women Witnessing is a response to the unprecedented changes humans are facing in an age of massive species loss and ecological collapse. The editors welcome writing in all forms and genres, and artwork in all mediums, responding to the urgencies of this time. The journal is a home for dreams, visions, and communications with the nonhuman world, especially those which contain messages for how we might begin to heal our broken relationship to the earth. It publishes self-identified women and nonbinary writers.
