Robert Peters

Robert Peters (1924–2014) was a poet, critic and scholar born in Eagle River, Wisconsin. He taught for many years at the University of California, Irvine. His son's death in 1960 led to Songs for a Son, the first of more than thirty collections. He also wrote criticism, including The Great American Poetry Bake-Off and Hunting the Snark. Chiron Review Press published his Love Poems for Robert Mitchum in 1992, and the magazine has listed him among its contributors. Later collections took on historical and invented voices, such as Ludwig of Bavaria and Elisabeth Báthory.
