About the press

3 Mile Harbor Press is an independent publisher and artist-run space located on the eastern end of Long Island. Founded in 2015, it emerged from a desire to create a sustainable, community-oriented platform for artists and writers working at the intersection of text and image. The press operates with a dual focus: producing limited-edition artist books and chapbooks, and hosting residencies that allow for extended, process-driven work. Its mission is to foster a slower, more deliberate mode of cultural production, prioritizing experimentation and material inquiry over market-driven trends.

Publishing focus

3 Mile Harbor Press is committed to publishing the best diverse work by new and established poets and is particularly interested in finding LGBQT+, BIPOC, feminist, and environmentally aware voices.

Artists and writers should approach 3 Mile Harbor Press with a clear sense of how their work engages with the book form or text-image interplay. Submissions are typically open twice a year, with guidelines posted on the website. The press favors proposals that demonstrate a thoughtful, process-oriented practice and a willingness to engage with the local community. Include a concise project description, work samples, and a note on how the residency or publication would advance your practice. Avoid generic portfolios; specificity and material awareness are key.

Please no greeting card, overly sentimental or clichéd offerings, also nothing sexist, misogynist, racist or homophobic. 3 Mile Harbor Press is looking for strong voices and strong imagery. Virtually any genre of poetry is acceptable: lyric, narrative, experimental, magical realism, spoken word, etc. as long as it is within a cohesive manuscript.
