About the press

Gold Line Press is a nonprofit literary press affiliated with the University of Southern California's Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Founded in 2010, it operates as a teaching press, where graduate students in the university's Master of Professional Writing program gain hands-on experience in editing, design, and production. The press is dedicated to publishing innovative poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, with a particular emphasis on chapbooks and full-length collections that might be overlooked by commercial publishers. Its mission is to foster emerging writers while providing practical training for students, creating a symbiotic relationship between the academic and literary communities.

Publishing focus

Gold Line Press, founded in 2010, aims to promote the work of emerging poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction writers, and to elevate the chapbook form. The editorial board does not adhere to any specific aesthetic approach. They seek out voices that deserve to be heard by a larger audience, and they are open to all work that uses the chapbook length and form in innovative, emotionally resonant, and subversive ways.

Writers should carefully review Gold Line Press's submission guidelines, which are typically updated on their website and announced via social media. The press primarily accepts submissions through periodic open reading periods and annual contests, often with specific themes or genre focuses. It is advisable to submit polished, innovative work that aligns with the press's aesthetic, which favors risk-taking and literary merit over commercial appeal. Since the press operates within an academic calendar, response times may vary, and simultaneous submissions are generally discouraged unless explicitly permitted. Including a brief, professional cover letter and adhering strictly to formatting requirements will demonstrate seriousness and respect for the editorial process.
