About the press

Splice is a UK-based arts organization that operates as a platform for contemporary moving image and experimental film. Founded with a commitment to supporting artists at critical stages of their practice, Splice functions as both a commissioning body and a presenting partner, often working outside traditional gallery and cinema contexts. Its ethos is rooted in fostering risk-taking and process-driven work, with an emphasis on artists who challenge conventional narrative and formal boundaries. By providing production support, curatorial mentorship, and public exhibition opportunities, Splice aims to create a sustainable ecosystem for underrepresented voices in the moving image field.

Publishing focus

Splice publishes short fiction collections, novels, and collections of essays, with a focus on adventurous, unconventional prose. Although Splice leans towards literary fiction, the Splice catalogue also includes stories in other genres such as science fiction, magical realism, absurdism, surrealism, urban fantasy, horror, and speculative historical fiction. The primary interest for Splice isn’t story so much as language. The press is continually seeking fresh, inventive, and experimental prose styles and narrative structures.

Artists should approach Splice with a clear understanding of its focus on experimental moving image and time-based media. Before submitting, review past projects and commissioned artists to gauge alignment with the organization's aesthetic and conceptual interests. Proposals should articulate a strong critical framework and demonstrate how the work pushes formal or thematic boundaries. Since Splice often works with a small team, patience and concise communication are valued. Avoid generic applications; instead, tailor your submission to specific calls and highlight process, research, and risk-taking rather than polished final products.
