Writers should approach the University of Tampa Press with an awareness of its specific niches: poetry collections, literary fiction, and scholarly works with a literary bent. Before submitting, review the press's catalog to understand its aesthetic range, which favors lyrical prose and well-crafted verse over experimental or genre work. For the Danahy Fiction Prize, submit only previously unpublished short stories and adhere strictly to the annual deadline and guidelines. General submissions are typically open during designated reading periods; check the website for current windows. Include a brief, professional cover letter that situates your work within the press's mission, and always enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope if submitting by mail. Patience is advised, as response times can be lengthy due to the small staff.
