The Artist-In-Residence Program at Rocky Mountain National Park offers professional writers, composers, and visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their artistic discipline while being surrounded by the park's inspiring landscape. Selected artists stay in a historic cabin for two-week periods from June through September. No stipend is provided. The finished artwork will characterize Rocky Mountain National Park for present and future generations and offer the park visitor and the general public an opportunity to see our heritage through the eyes and ears of the contributing artists, thereby, fulfilling one of the program's main purposes. Another aim of the program is to ensure the preservation of the William Allen White cabin, a historic structure within Rocky Mountain National Park. Built in 1887, this home was set-aside in 1984 to house Artists-In-Residence participants. Perpetuating the memory of William Allen White, a famous American editor and author, is the third purpose of the program. Mr. White and his family spent thirty-one summers in his cabin amidst the inspiring landscape of Moraine Park and the Rocky Mountains.
The mission of the Roman J. Witt Residency Program is to support the production of new work in collaboration with the University of Michigan community. For the Stamps School community to witness and partake in the creation of a defined work from concept to completion is the centerpiece of the residency. This visibility of the creative process is intended as an exemplary teaching tool for the school as a whole. The residency is expected to culminate in the realization of the proposed work, as well as its presentation. Eligibility The Witt Residency is open to both established and emerging artists/designers. The Witt residency provides students an alternative learning opportunity to engage with practicing artists who can make use of resources across campus, therefore the ideal candidate must value collaboration, have good social and communication skills and be interested in generating creative partnerships across disciplines. It is the goal of the Witt Residency to foster an atmosphere of inventive creative activity that extends throughout the University community. About the Stamps School of Art & Design The undergraduate and graduate programs in the Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan each offer a non-media specific degree at the intersection of art and design. Free of traditional concentrations, the undergraduate program challenges students to define their own pathways and undertake robust, self-defined culminating projects in their final year. Our dynamic two year MFA program integrates creative production with rigorous academic studies, international study with regional community engagement, and theoretical grounding with skills development. It is structured to expand the intellectual reach of creative work and utilize a comprehensive process for bringing creative work into the world. Our MDes in Integrative Design aligns graduate education with the best in emerging professional practice. A program rooted in collaboration, our two year MDes program brings together a small cohort to focus on addressing one “wicked problem” through design. Stamps has a current enrollment of 700 undergraduate and 24 graduate students. Forty-one full-time faculty, a cohort of part-time faculty, and a strong administrative and technical staff to support the School’s programs. Additional information about the School and its programs is available at stamps.umich.edu .

Rosa di Tufo is the ancestral home of the DeVito family, recently converted into a Bed and Breakfast. We offer reduced rates for artists in the form of a residency--$150 per week, or $550 per month. This residency is truly remote--not only is Tufo seated in a rural area of Southern Italy, the house itself is internet-free. (There is a 24-hour cafe down the street that offers wifi for free and espressos for eighty cents.) As Tufo is a small town (pop. ~1,000), its residents won't miss you. They are generally welcoming to artists, and will often engage with you in town and, sometimes, invite you to enormous, late dinners. Inquiries to program director Patrick DeVito McNeil at rosaditufo@gmail.com.
The Ross Creek Centre provides an experiences for artists who wish to live in a retreat setting while in an artistic venue. Their Colony and Residency programs provide a rural environment along with the gifts of time and space to inspire talented artists of all disciplines. A Ross Creek Colony consists of use of a studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day for between two and eight weeks. Both residencies and colony programs bring emerging and established artists of all disciplines and cultures together for 4-12 week retreats staying onsite in the 95 year old farmhouse and using their facilities. A colony is an experience where the visiting artist wishes to work without reference to the Centre’s wider community. There is usually only one moment where they will be asked to interact with the public during their stay, if appropriate. The identified project for the artist is paramount and their complete focus. A residency is also project based, but also provides many possibilities to interact with the community, as a teacher or mentor. Residencies see the artist engaging the community through programs developed in conjunction with the programming staff and administered by Ross Creek. They match artists’ interests and skills with the needs of the community to provide the rural community with the best possible experience. Sometimes, they accept residencies for a particular piece of art to be created at the Centre, especially large scale sculpture or garden works that can live in the landscape there. The outreach and education programs bring professional colony artists together with the community. They accept applications year round and review them monthly on the 10th of each month.
