About the residency

The Art-Residence of Bishkek School of Contemporary Art “Bulbul” is a non-commercial initiative founded in 2017 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. It emerged from the Bishkek School of Contemporary Art (BSCA), an educational platform established in 2016 that offers courses in contemporary art theory and practice. Bulbul was conceived as a residency program to support artists, curators, and researchers working in Central Asian and international contexts, providing time, space, and critical dialogue. Its mission is to foster experimental practices, facilitate cross-cultural exchange, and contribute to the development of contemporary art in the region. The residency operates in a spirit of openness and experimentation, encouraging residents to engage with local communities and the unique socio-political landscape of Kyrgyzstan.
