Intima: A Journal of Narrative Medicine is a literary journal dedicated to promoting the theory and practice of narrative medicine, an interdisciplinary field that enhances healthcare through the effective communication, empathy, and understanding between clinicians, caregivers, and patients. In 2026, Where It Hurts: Dispatches from the Emotional Frontlines of Medicine , an anthology of work culled from Intima's archives was published by New York publisher, The Experiment.
Submitting your work
Intima accepts submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual art related to health and medicine. They also publish book reviews, but only by solicitation or prior query. Writers should familiarize themselves with the journal's tone and content before submitting. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere. All submissions must be original and previously unpublished. For book reviews, query the editors first with a brief proposal. Response times vary, so patience is appreciated.
