About the magazine

La Piccioletta Barca is an online literary and arts journal founded in 2018, taking its name from the small boat in Dante's *Paradiso* that carries readers toward new intellectual horizons. The journal publishes poetry, fiction, essays, and visual art, with a particular openness to work that navigates between languages, cultures, and disciplines. Its founding ethos is one of curiosity and craft: rather than adhering to a single aesthetic or theoretical line, it seeks writing and art that are formally alert and emotionally resonant, often featuring translations and cross-genre experiments. The journal is run by a small editorial team and maintains a deliberately uncluttered online presence, allowing the work to speak without excessive framing.

Editorial focus

La Piccioletta Barca is an arts journal publishing: short stories, poetry, prose, essays, interviews, and translations with an ethos to move beyond the myth of the artist as sole creator. They will only be receiving submissions through their Submittable page. The editors do not discriminate between new and established authors, and they accept anything from classical to experimental art as long as it is of a high standard. Formally playful work with a compelling authorial tone is particularly encouraged.

Unsolicited submissionsYes

Before submitting, read at least two recent issues to understand the journal's range—it favors work that is precise, imaginative, and unafraid of slowness. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but notify promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief, factual cover letter; there is no need for extensive bio or project descriptions. For visual art, provide a link to a portfolio rather than large attachments. Response times can vary, so query politely after three months. The editors appreciate submissions that follow guidelines exactly and demonstrate familiarity with the journal's cosmopolitan, craft-focused sensibility.

LPB highly recommends familiarising yourself with the content published in the column of interest before submitting. If you have any queries, feel free to get in touch with the editors by email prior to submission.‍
