Editorial focus
Oregon Humanities is a magazine about the experiences, ideas, and beliefs of Oregonians. In each issue, Oregon writers, artists, and readers explore diverse perspectives and challenging questions relating to the place we live and the people who live here. Oregon Humanities is a magazine of many voices. It embraces collaboration, learning, and multiple ways of knowing. It rejects simple explanations and single answers. It respects expertise and affirms that everyone is the leading expert of their own experiences.
Submitting your work
Writers should review the magazine's guidelines carefully, as it seeks personal essays and reported pieces that are grounded in lived experience and reflect on broader humanistic themes. Pitches should be concise and demonstrate a clear angle and relevance to Oregon and beyond. The editors value authentic voices and avoid jargon. For public programs, proposals should engage community partners and address timely issues with depth. Response times can be slow, so patience is advised.
Each issue of Oregon Humanities is themed, and we only consider submissions that relate to the theme. Read our current call for submissions at www.oregonhumanities.org/rll/magazine/ca... . We generally only publish work by Oregon residents.
