Editorial focus
Portland Review has been publishing exceptional prose, poetry, and art since 1956. The journal is produced by the graduate students of Portland State University’s English Department, and for over sixty years, Portland Review has promoted the works of emerging writers and artists alongside the works of well-established authors.
Submitting your work
Before submitting, carefully review recent issues to understand the journal's aesthetic range, which spans from lyric poetry to speculative fiction. Simultaneously, adhere strictly to genre-specific guidelines: poetry submissions should include 3-5 poems, fiction and nonfiction up to 5,000 words. Use the online submission manager and include a brief cover letter with publication credits, if any. Response times vary, but simultaneous submissions are accepted with immediate notification of acceptance elsewhere. The editors appreciate work that demonstrates craft, emotional resonance, and a fresh perspective, regardless of the author's publication history.
Please check the website for the latest submission period information.
