Editorial focus
Your Impossible Voice publishes brash and velvety new work from around the globe, including fiction, poetry, nonfiction, translations, literary reviews, essays, excerpts, art, and interviews.
Submitting your work
Before submitting, read several recent issues to understand the journal's aesthetic, which favors work that is formally daring, multilingual, or otherwise difficult to classify. Your Impossible Voice accepts submissions via Submittable during announced reading periods; check the website for current windows. Simultaneous submissions are generally permitted, but notify the editors promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, and for translations, secure permissions and include the original text when possible. Response times vary, so patience is advised. The editors appreciate concise, well-proofed manuscripts and are transparent about their preferences on the journal's guidelines page.
We publish new work weekly online and two print issues annually. We accept submissions through Submittable. Please do not email us your submissions—we will not consider them. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but we ask that you withdraw your submission immediately if accepted elsewhere. We respond to all submissions, though sometimes it takes us several months. We ask for your patience. You will hear from us. We are most interested in voice-driven, off-center, and innovative work. If you’re unsure what that means, please read our most recent issue. All submissions should be of previously unpublished work. We have no minimum word count and rarely publish work longer than 15,000 words.
