PAF is a place for the professional and not-yet professional practitioners and activists in the field of performing arts, visual art, literature, music, new media and internet, theory and cultural production, and scientists who seek to research and determine their own conditions of work. PAF is for people who can motorize their own artistic production and knowledge production not only responding to the opportunities given by the institutional market. Initiated and run by artists, theoreticians and practitioners themselves, PAF is a user-created, user-innovative informal institution. Neither a production-house and venue, nor a research-center, it is a platform for everyone who wants to expand possibilities and interests in his/her own working practice.
In addition to serving as a distinctive art and cultural space in Kaohsiung, Pier-2 is also a recreation area for the public, drawing huge crowds with its open and multi-purpose space. The Pier-2 Art Center develops as an international art platform in Taiwan, focusing on avant-garde, experimental, and original artistic endeavors. Consisting of merely two warehouses in the beginning, it has now grown into an area with a total of 25 structures that are grouped into Dayong Warehouse, Penglai Warehouse, and Dayi Warehouse. Besides a variety of art exhibitions and performances, spaces are also utilized for experimental theater and small-scale popular music concerts as well as cultural development that Pier-2 actively invites the cultural and creative arts sector to participate in. The Pier-2 Art Center Artist-in-Residence Program (PAIR) designates a section of Dayi Warehouse as the dedicated space for resident artists and artistic groups. A 33-square-meter creation space (complete with a bathroom) and a 17-square-meter attic for living space are available for artists to create artworks, which we hope will add vitality to Pier-2 and foster a platform for art and cultural exchanges and performances. The residency plan must incorporate aspects of Kaohsiung's local culture, geographic environment, cultural landscape, social conditions, and other relevant issues. The artworks created accordingly should be exhibited by the end of the residency. All forms of artistic expression are acceptable. Selected artists should carry out their residency plan for 60-85 days. The residency duration must not be less than 60 days. If, due to personal reasons, artists can only stay for less than 60 days, PAIR reserves the right to cancel their qualification. Due to the annual residency operation and exhibition space arrangement, PAIR has the authority to designate the residency duration as 60-85 days. After finalizing the annual schedule, PAIR will discuss and confirm the residency period and duration with selected artists. Once the residency period and duration are confirmed with the artists, no alterations shall be made. If artists are unable to adhere to the agreed-upon time, PAIR reserves the right to cancel their qualification.

Pangaea Sculptors’ Centre (PSC) challenges current sculptural conventions and engages the practice of sculpture and three-dimensional art from diverse and even contradictory perspectives. In this way, PSC seeks to promote critical engagement and innovation in this field. The aim of the programme is to support excellence, innovation and the critical practice of three-dimensional art and to facilitate professional-development opportunities for artists committed to producing ambitious sculptural works.. This residency is best suited for supporting the realisation of pre-existing ideas: a proposition, notion, desire, etc. that is waiting patiently to be brought into being. The maquette for this project may be half-made on a shelf somewhere or the design drawn in an old sketchbook. Or the proposal may still be an idea, though one persistent enough that although it may shift, doesn’t go away. This is the opportunity to realise the project that you’ve been thinking about for some time but for one reason or another have not had the right impetus, support, space and/or platform through which to do this.

Located in the pleasant town called Hidaka Town, which is two-hours away from Sapporo by car, and where those beautiful horses are well-taken care of with abundance of its surrounding nature, our first experimental artist residency program will be taken place by welcoming those curious artists who are willing to share your thoughts for how we could potentially build up our unique creative hub of the artist residency in a pro-long and diverse manner from now onwards. There is a potential building site as a permanent-based art residency in a city called “Chitose City” which is only 45 minutes away from Sapporo, and where the main international airport is located, unexpectedly in the middle of nowhere as literally surrounded by forest with wild animals and birds. However, since this potential building site in Chitose City is still under the initial stage of its renovation, we are setting our residency program this year in our temporary creative lodges located in a town called Hidaka Town, which is two hours away from Sapporo by car. As the PIN AIR experimental artist residency program 2024, they will be holding an artist residency program co-sponsored with the summer camp of the North Peak International School in Niseko, in the form of the refurbished student dormitory adjacent to the former stable facilities as our experimental creative studios in Hidaka Town for this year.
