With a 19th century former natural history museum and a contemporary white cube to fuel its engine, Talbot Rice Gallery is dedicated to exploring how the University of Edinburgh can contribute to contemporary art production today and into the future. Since 2018 the Talbot Rice Residents have been a major part the Talbot Rice Gallery and Edinburgh College of Art community. Each year for five years, five new emerging artists from Scotland join the programme, which they then continue for two years, with the programme contributing richly to the ecology of Edinburgh’s visual arts context. Talbot Rice Gallery plays an active role in Edinburgh College of Art, working with students throughout the year, engaging them in the programme and curatorial vision. The annual Trading Zone exhibition hunts for distinct practices across all the schools and artforms of Edinburgh College of Art. Talbot Rice Residents provides time and support for emerging, or re-emerging, artists based in Scotland within the unique context of Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh College of Art and the University of Edinburgh. Residents receive year-round curatorial and technical support from the Talbot Rice team, as well as access to workshops, libraries and collections, and contact with the vast academic community within the University of Edinburgh. In addition to an annual Artist Fee, Residents receive an individual budget for production and travel, and meet at key points in the programme for masterclasses and workshops delivered by invited guests. The programme also includes national and international research trips and new commissioned writing. Characterised by rigorous exploration, experimentation and risk-taking, Talbot Rice Residents are encouraged to make use of the resources on offer and undertake a significant period of research, whilst also actively seeking public moments to show work (or work in progress) throughout the programme. Residents are invited to consider and use the diverse estate of the University of Edinburgh, as well as the digital world, as potential sites for outcomes and will be fully supported by Talbot Rice to promote their work. The programme culminates in 2023 with an exhibition in London. The Talbot Rice Residents programme is supported by the Freelands Foundation through the Freelands Artist Programme.
Tangent Projects is a curatorial initiative set up to work with artists on site-responsive exhibitions and projects. With a desire to add multiplicity to the current art archetype, Tangent Projects endeavors to showcase exemplary works in a variety of different media and platforms - including publications, exhibitions, performances, and online commissions. In offering the opportunity for digressions to be pursued, ideas and processes that might normally have been discarded in favor of the main discourse will have the potential to reach a conclusion. Without a commercial bias and with experimentation encouraged, Tangent Projects invites artists to explore the diversions and deviations within their artistic practice. In simple terms, the residency gives artists the leeway to "go off on a tangent". They are accepting applications for the studio residency programme for 2023/24. Residencies are for 3 months and the placements will be between: September - December 2023 January-April 2024 April - July 2024 Please let them know your preferred dates in your motivation text.
Tbilisi AiR is a non-profit, artist-led residency dedicated to interdisciplinary and experimental exchange within the field of art and culture. Tbilisi Air is open to artists, curators, and practitioners from all backgrounds and disciplines, united by curiosity, experimentation, and a willingness to engage with new ideas and contexts. Based in Tbilisi, Georgia’s cultural hub, the residency draws on the city’s vibrant artistic and social networks. The city itself unfolds as a constellation of overlapping realities, constantly forming and reforming between past and present. Informal infrastructures and shifting narratives leave traces of lives, ideas, and historical moments, fragments of unfinished stories that invite attention and exploration. In this dynamic landscape, every encounter can open a new path. Tbilisi Air hosts, supports, and collaborates with international artists who have a genuine desire to live and work in Georgia for a period of between one and three months. The program builds on existing artistic and social contexts rather than starting from scratch. It supports curiosity, research, and dialogue between visiting and local artists, practitioners, scholars, and arts professionals across disciplines. The residency welcomes individuals and collectives of all ages and nationalities, both emerging and established. We support experimental, research-informed, and process-driven practices across all disciplines rather than production, providing space for processes that may later lead to a project, work, or exhibition. Importance and Urgency: Tbilisi AiR operates in a context where institutional structures are fragile and frequently shaped by financial and political instability. In this landscape, each presence, connection, and contribution carries particular weight, and residents become part of the ongoing construction of the city’s cultural future. Projects, relationships, and ideas developed during the residency are not expected to end with the stay. They are understood as seeds for ongoing collaborations, future returns, and continued research. Over time, residents’ contributions accumulate, forming a growing memory of the place that remains accessible to future residents and local communities. Tbilisi functions both as a reflective space and as a laboratory: a city that rewards attention, invites curiosity, and leaves traces that resonate long after one has left. Tbilisi AiR is committed to continuity, knowledge transfer, and long-term impact beyond individual residency periods. The program unfolds through encounters, conversations, and shared processes, generating insights and experiences for both local and visiting participants. Its open structure supports individual artistic practices while creating opportunities through a strong and evolving network. Encounters arise organically, broadening perspectives and deepening understanding. The program balances structured support with flexible autonomy, creating conditions in which participants feel trusted, empowered, and focused on process rather than product. Connections, collaborations, and discoveries emerge organically, allowing each resident to shape their own path while contributing to the evolving life of the residency and the city. Structure and Approach: The Tbilisi AiR is a flexible program that supports individual practices while enabling interdisciplinary exchange. Drawing on a strong network, the residency responds to the specific needs and interests of each visiting resident. Depending on available resources and the circumstances of their stay, participants can engage in opportunities tailored entirely to their own practice and goals. Residents can connect with local artists, institutions, and independent initiatives. The program does not prioritize predetermined outcomes; instead, it encourages projects, collaborations, and interventions that emerge along the process.
The Schaufler Lab @ TU Dresden, TU Dresden and THE SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION have established a lively forum for a forward-looking dialogue between science, art and society. In this project, young researchers and artists come together across disciplinary boundaries to question current technologies, their origins, and their impacts on the modern world. The Schaufler Lab @ TU Dresden consists of the Schaufler Kolleg @ TU Dresden and the Schaufler Residency @ TU Dresden. It brings together (early-career) researchers and international artists. Both the fellows and the artists are committed to an explicitly transdisciplinary research methodology at the interface between science and art. In the Schaufler Lab @ TU Dresden, researchers and scholarship holders from various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences cooperate with artists as well as with researchers from the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Partner institutions are TU Dresden's Clusters of Excellence. An artist in residence position is open, starting in 2022 and continuing for a 6-month period, in the Office for Academic Heritage, a major division of Technische Universität Dresden. The position is for the Schaufler Lab @ TU Dresden, co-financed by THE SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION and TU Dresden. At Schaufler Lab @ TU Dresden, researchers and artists engage in an exploration of the interactions among technology, art, science and entrepreneurship. The focus is primarily on technology as a resource, as a means of distribution and as an element of discourse. In the first of three planned funding periods (2019–2022), the Lab’s guiding theme is “Artificial Intelligence and Social Transformation.” The topic sets the stage for research, artistic activity and communication with the wider public regarding the relationship between technological developments and social and cultural change from the perspective of the humanities and social sciences. The Schaufler Lab @ TU Dresden includes 10 positions for doctoral students and an artist in residence program. They would like to give committed, internationally active artists the unique opportunity to work in a collaborative community of researchers and students and to use the university’s resources for artistic and creative projects for a 6-month period.

Terrain Exhibitions brings contemporary art where it is most needed and least expected: yards, front steps, windows, porches, and roofs in residential neighborhoods across the U.S. (and beyond). This is an act of radical decentralization, taking art from privileged urban centers and bringing it into everyday spaces. By forging partnerships between artists and ordinary citizens, we create greater access for new and underserved audiences for contemporary art, empowering neighbors to make private spaces public in a spirit of generosity and collaboration. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency and the Montage Foundation. Terrain Exhibitions is currently accepting applications for the 2022 Terrain Exhibitions residency program. The residency, hosted by the Springfield Art Association (SAA)/Enos Park Residency for Visual Artists, is located in Springfield, Illinois, for a period of four to six weeks between May 15 through August 31, 2022. Artists are invited to live and work at the residency duplex to pursue the development of public projects: art installations, architectural interventions, performances, social practice, and community programs. Terrain Exhibitions encourages applications from artists from all backgrounds, including underrepresented groups that include (but are not limited to) artists of color, LGBTQ artists, women artists, non-binary, transgender and gender nonconforming artists, and artists with disabilities. Two residencies will be awarded. The review of applicants will be conducted by a panel composed of Terrain-affiliated volunteers and guest panelist Tizziana Baldenebro. The Springfield Art Association follows COVID-19 safety protocols, among them: required masks, facility cleaning, and social distancing.

The Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, founded in 1995 on the Tower View estate in rural Red Wing, Minn., has renovated and restored historic buildings to support working artists and the creative process, including developing twenty-two active studio spaces and three galleries. A renovated barn serves as a performance and event venue, the historic main residence houses artists-in-residence, and fifteen acres support a sculpture garden. The Anderson Center provides residencies of two- or four-weeks’ duration from May through October each year to enable artists, writers, musicians, and performers of exceptional promise and demonstrated accomplishment to create, advance, or complete work. In addition to community engagement activities through the artist residency program, the organization has a strong history of helping integrate the arts into community life through local partnerships, hosting annual arts events and participating in other community-based initiatives. There are typically 5 residents at the Anderson Center at a time, and the organization hosts approximately 35 residents each year. This program is one of the largest of its kind in the Upper Midwest. Since the Center opened in 1995, nearly 800 artists from 45 states and 40 countries have participated in the program.
Every year a panel of five arts professionals, assembled by the Bronx Museum, selects thirty-six artists to participate in the AIM program. The thirteen AIM sessions are led by a faculty of specialists and address areas of practical concern to artists including: career management and gallery representation; exhibition and public art opportunities; grant writing, copyright law and contracts, and marketing. There are two groups: winter (January through March) and spring (April through June). The sessions are held at the Bronx Museum and off-site locations on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 pm and occasionally on Saturdays from 3-5 pm. Participating artists are encouraged to build their networks through the program's collaborative structure. AIM culminates with a biennial exhibition organized by a team of guest curators and an accompanying catalogue.

In the 1920s, the artists of the international avant-garde lived next door to one another in the complex of Masters’ Houses. In 2016, contemporary artists returned to the scene. The Bauhaus Residency enables artists from all over the world to live and work in the Masters’ Houses. Bauhaus Residency 2021 – Infrastructure In modernism, architecture, design and infrastructure cannot be separated: The more comprehensive the network of urban infrastructures became, the more efficiently and economically housing could be designed. The Masters' Houses in Dessau are interesting examples of this immediate connection between modern infrastructure and architecture. Large-scale projects oriented around ideologies of technological progress caused the rapid destruction of landscapes and settlements in the 1960s and 1970s, and they are under massive criticism now. Nature is no longer treated as a infinitely available resource. In the face of impending scarcity of resources and privatization, communal supply networks and infrastructures all over the world are challenged in the 21st century. In their works, exhibitions and events, the artists* of the Bauhaus Residency Programme devote themselves to these and other aspects of infrastructure.
The Blank is a cultural network born in 2010 to promote and enhance territories, identities and local cultural heritage through contemporary art and its participatory, inclusive and transnational dimension. The residency program is organized in different projects that embrace various contemporary researches and create connections with Italian and international institutions. The residence offers the chance to meet and be guided to discover the national and local cultural reality and to develop a dialogue with the local community that is actively involved in the projects.
