About the residency

GlogauAIR gGmbH is a Berlin-based non-profit organization founded in 2006 with a mission to support contemporary artistic practice through international residencies and cultural exchange. Initially established in a former factory in Berlin-Kreuzberg, it has since expanded its programming to include off-site residencies such as the Atlas Residency in rural Portugal, reflecting a commitment to contextual and site-responsive work. The organization provides artists with time, space, and critical networks to develop their practices away from commercial pressures. At its core, GlogauAIR fosters experimentation and dialogue, prioritizing process over finished product. Its residencies are designed to accommodate artists at various career stages, offering studio access, mentorship, and public engagement opportunities. By situating residencies in both urban and rural contexts, GlogauAIR encourages artists to consider the social and environmental dimensions of their work.

Planning your application

Artists should approach GlogauAIR with a clear sense of how a residency would advance their practice, emphasizing process and contextual inquiry over polished outcomes. Applications typically require a project proposal, work samples, and a statement of intent. Given the organization's focus on site-specificity, applicants for the Atlas Residency should articulate a genuine interest in rural contexts and community engagement. It is advisable to review past residents' work to understand the expected level of experimentation and criticality. Deadlines are announced on the website, and early preparation is recommended due to competitive selection.
