About the residency
The New York Art Residency and Studios (NARS) Foundation, established in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, operates on the principle that sustained artistic dialogue and international exchange are vital to contemporary practice. Its Artist in Residency Program provides emerging and mid-career artists and curators with three- and six-month residencies, offering 24/7 access to private or shared studio spaces (250–300 sq ft) within a diverse community. The foundation’s ethos is rooted in process over product, emphasizing experimentation that arises from working alongside peers in New York’s cultural and sociopolitical context.

Applicants should demonstrate a clear commitment to process and experimentation, and articulate how their work would benefit from sustained interaction within a diverse, international cohort. Proposals should reflect an awareness of New York’s cultural and sociopolitical context. While the program is open to all disciplines, the selection committee prioritizes artists and curators whose practices are research-driven and who can contribute to a shared space of critical dialogue. International applicants should note rolling admission deadlines specific to their status.
