About the residency

NARS Foundation, based in Brooklyn, New York, was established in 2012 to support contemporary artists through residencies, exhibitions, and public programs. Its founding ethos centers on providing time, space, and critical context for artists to develop their practices without the pressures of the commercial market. The International Residency Program, a core initiative, offers artists from around the world a studio environment and opportunities for dialogue with peers and curators. NARS is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community, with a particular emphasis on underrepresented voices in the arts.

Planning your application

Artists should approach NARS with a clear sense of how a residency would advance their practice, emphasizing process and research over finished products. The selection committee values proposals that demonstrate a thoughtful engagement with the program's themes and a willingness to participate in the communal life of the residency. Applications typically require a project description, work samples, and references; ensure these materials are cohesive and reflect a mature artistic vision. Deadlines are usually annual, so check the website for specific dates and eligibility criteria.
