The next residency at Casa Giap will take place in San Cristobal de Las Casas from July 22 to 31 and it will be coordinated by GIAP (Research group in art and politics) and TJ Demos (University of California – Santa Cruz). The program includes seminars with GIAP (Research Group in Art and Politics), Professor TJ Demos, and local guests. It will involve some field trips (one towards the interior of the forest, at a site of environmental/social interest) and many other activities, such as meetings with Mayan artists. You can consult the report that TJ Demos wrote about last summer’s residency: https://rca.ucsc.edu/documents/open-forum-fall-2018-tj-demos-final.pdf The participation cost for each resident is $ 700 USD. It covers: – Program of seminars, talks and meetings – 11 nights accommodation (with kitchen and wifi) – Access to media library and GIAP’s art collection – Transfers outside the city – Some food and coffee break between sessions.

Accomodation and board provision do have a cost but this also is to be proposed by the applicant artist: we implement a slide scale factor in order to represent an inclusive opportunity, with rates averaging 20usd per day and automatic discount for third world applicants. Casa Xaan is a micro residency in a rural setting south east mexico within maya country, where the maya language, customary uses and traditions are still common trade among its inhabitants. Our visitors are mostly interested in connecting their work to the mexican cultures, to first hand access to mayan ruins and other places of interest. The landscape is quite unique with sinkholes into pristine waters randomly appearing through the Yucatan peninsula, as well as the now very famous Tulum white sand beaches. Maracuyá is an international artist residency in Tijuana, Mexico, founded by artist, educator, and Tijuana native Dmitri Zurita. Housed on a beachfront property two kilometers south of the US-Mexico border wall at the northwesternmost edge of Latin America, the program has convened an invited cohort of established international artists each summer since 2018. Residents arrive without production requirements, exhibition mandates, curatorial briefs, or cost of attendance; asked only to be present with the place, the city, and each other. Against the residency’s prevailing logic of output and exchange, Maracuyá holds open a different proposition: that place, proximity, and unstructured time constitute a serious form of practice. Curatorial support, professional development advice and other residency resources will be available as needed, as well as social networking and exhibition opportunities with local groups.

The processes of publishing and editing since the emergence of social networks have brought a profound transformation in the established collective, encompassing academia, universities, and political organizations. In artistic practice, self-publishing emerges as a way to democratize other fields, processes, and questions that may not necessarily be reflected in the artwork, or that should be considered artwork themselves. Self-publishing collapses the authority of academia and its recognized collectives to circumvent the mandate of "publish or perish." PotentA____ Editorial Residency is launched as a space for collective collaboration and experimentation, primarily dedicated to spanish-speaking and spanglish content. The aim is to collectively explore alternative spatial possibilities within the editorial architecture, challenging the conventions of art circulation and its practices from the perspective of artistic practice and self-publishing.

Residents have the opportunity to create new situations, narratives and collaborative projects, based on the experiences of a cultural exchange occurred during each investigation. Residents also get the chance to share their work in public events, usually hosted in one of our peer art-spaces in the City. The main goal of the Lab is to offer a critical and creative platform that can inform your regular art-practice while considering the context of Mexico City and its Valley. Via a collaborative hosting, this residency works with the engagement of other independent art-spaces, peers. We want to sustain a fair art- mobility, while bringing artists from around the globe that can also be relevalnt in the exchange of art making as knowlange with the local art practicioners that are part of our community.
