The Provincetown Community Compact, Inc. (The Compact) was established in 1993 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization by artist Jay Critchley. It is organized as a community-building and philanthropic organization to support artists and the vitality of the community. The mission of The Compact is to advance the health and cultural well-being of the community of Provincetown and the Lower Cape – its people, the natural environment, and the economy. Their initiatives include: The Swim For Life, Dune Shack Residencies, our Think-ubator program, Prayer Ribbons, and special projects and initiatives. The concept for The Compact was to recreate an inclusive, diverse, visionary, and fully democratic contract with the community, reimagining the original Mayflower Compact, which was signed in Provincetown Harbor in 1620. The Compact has envisioned Provincetown as a Cultural Sanctuary and acknowledges the ancestral lands of the Wampanoag Nation that we inhabit. As such, their projects are an economic engine that expresses the connection between the arts, the community, and the environment. We explore the role and relevance of art and create experiences that break down divides, often in unexpected ways. The Compact projects strengthen the interdependence of people and place in order to nurture and promote sustainability.
Proyecto PAC aims to support and expand contemporary artistic practices (including performance and curatorial proposals) through an international program of residencies in Gachi Prieto gallery, in the city of Buenos Aires. Gachi Prieto gallery focuses in Latin American contemporary art; constantly seeking for new meanings and it works with full commitment in the promotion of projects and artists within this complex system. Currently, the gallery represents 20 young well-established Latin American artists. Its program of 8 exhibitions per year fosters interdisciplinary, conceptual and spatial approaches in a variety of media including sculpture, video, sound, painting, photography and performance. It is well-known for revealing and consolidating the career of its artists, and for supporting them in presenting institutional scale exhibitions, conquering an increasingly notorious position in the international artistic scenario. International Residencies Program This program operates as a research and production hub anchored in the specificity of the local context with the ultimate objective of promoting the exchange of knowledge, experiences and professional bonds among diverse cultural agents towards the development of an international network. The possibility of working for several weeks immersed in the busy activity of a recognized contemporary art gallery, as well as, participating in its educational programs for artists and curators, implies a continuous interaction and the visitors’ full involvement in Buenos Aires contemporary art scene. We only host one resident at a time, which allows us to devise an agenda of parallel activities specially designed according to personal objectives. We provide time, space and guidance to explore and experiment in a stimulating setting, which fosters debate and collaboration among artists, curators, theoreticians, critics, art managers and other cultural agents. Residencies' modalities Directed to artists of all disciplines, writers, researches, creators, theorists and curators interested in having an experience of total immersion in the contemporary art system within the urban context of Buenos Aires. The call proposes three residency modalities: a) Residency for research and / or artistic production: aimed at artists, regardless of age or gender, who wish to develop a project in the city of Buenos Aires. b) Residency of curatorial research: aimed at curators, researchers, critics and journalists, regardless of age or gender, interested in knowing in depth the contemporary artistic-cultural framework of the city of Buenos Aires and in developing a curatorial project or investigation based on the obtained experience. c) Residency for cultural management: aimed at cultural managers, regardless of age or gender, who intend to develop tasks of management, coordination and mediation of cultural projects. The selected residents will work between four and six weeks in the space provided by PAC Project and will get to know – through a program of participation in workshops, seminars, exhibitions and encounters with diverse prominent cultural figures – the cultural framework of Buenos Aires. This experience will be realized not only in their artistic, curatorial and management projects, but also in the presentation – toward the end of the residency – of a workshop, conference, exhibition or any other pertinent format, through which they will share with their colleagues and with the public the results of their stay. Complementary activities Residents may request the programming of an agenda of complementary activities according to their interests and personal objectives. Some of the suggested activities: -Participation of PAC Project classes, talks, seminars and workshops -Public portfolio presentation -Visits to artists' studios -Visits to museums and institutions with their directors or representatives -Interviews with curators or relevant referents within the local scene -Participation in open cultural activities -Meeting and recreation spaces -Social encounters -Cultural outings -Open Studios

The fields and artistic mediums of the Pepinieres’ residencies are numerous and often reflect the diversity of partnerships engaged by the structure, whether at national or international level. Particular attention is however paid to contemporary and intermedia and digital arts and arts / science projects, sound arts, videographic arts, performing arts (with particular attention to performance outside of the traditional dance or theatre domains), contemporary poetry and more generally to new forms of hybrid writing… by promoting as much as possible the transversality between the different disciplines, practices and skills. MAP – Mobility Art Process Residences: As a permanent programme, MAP consists in an accompanying of young artists and creative professionals on the European and international artistic scenes. MAP supports a young generation of artists that involve themselves in the human, social and economic environments that they encounter. MAP encourages multiplicity of experience and mutual enrichment through the production of transdisciplinary artistic projects developed through the experience of a territory’s realities. M2M – Made to measure Residences: These “made to measure” residences (tailor-made for projects, partnerships and according to the opportunities encountered) do not necessarily involve a public call for projects. They may result from calls for projects internal to the Pepinieres networks, from the direct selection of artists / projects previously supported by the Pepinieres, from a partner’s proposal, spontaneous applications or new encounters. It can also be a support for production/creation. These residences (of variable duration according to needs and contexts) take place in different partner places which are chosen according to the opportunities or relevance to the project. Associated residences: Artistic residencies based in France (open to French and/or foreign creators) for which the Pepinieres partnership supports the dissemination of the call. The latter can also take care of part of the development of the call, the production and monitoring of the residency, as well as the dissemination of the results. Cross residences: These are exchange residencies. Pepinieres offers 2 structures (who become co-producers and co-distributors of the same original project) to collaborate together by bringing together 2 complementary artists (or one artist and one researcher working on the same project) on a new joint project. In addition to the increased production and dissemination possibilities for the project and the creators, they can also benefit from the cross-skills of the associated structures. Two residencies are therefore engaged: a conception/research residency in the first structure and a production residency in the second. The results of each residency give rise to a “try out” (first return, at the end of the first phase, from the organizers and invited professionals) a public presentation in the second and last phase of the creation (exhibition, performance… according to the form of the project).

Advancing the culture of art and science on a remote island in Lake Superior. The Rabbit Island Foundation provides a platform to investigate, expand and challenge creative practices in a remote environment through the Rabbit Island Residency. By living and working on Rabbit Island—a 91 acre wilderness located in the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior—residents engage directly with the landscape and respond to notions of conservation, ecology, sustainability, and resilience. With the idea that the intelligent organization and celebration of wild spaces is the most civilized thing we can value as society, the residency reflects on the continent’s four hundred year history of settlement and division of land. The island, an unsettled and undivided space, enables residents to present commentary on these ideas, creating creative interpretations and solutions to issues of global importance such as climate change and loss of natural habitat and pristine watersheds.

Historically it has been a trading point and is best known as the “city of shoes and biscuits”. About the host Örebro Municipality and the OPENART Biennial are inviting artists to engage in a residency in the city of Örebro for research, with the aim to produce work for the next exhibition in the 2024 edition of the festival. OPENART is an exhibition that takes place in the city center of Örebro every second summer. Contemporary artworks are displayed outdoors and available for public interaction day and night during the exhibition period. For each edition, the festival presents a large number of artists working in a wide variety of art mediums and techniques. The majority of the artworks are sculptures and installations but we welcome artists working in all disciplines, interested in the intersection between art and the public. OPENART invites a broad audience to experience the exhibited art and creates an opportunity to broaden the art interest outside of the more traditional art scene as many people pass the artworks when moving through the city. Each artist is expected to lead the technical work installing the art work in a secure and responsible way. This also includes staying within the agreed budget and deadlines set in consultation with the team. Here you have the opportunity to take care of yourself, close to nature and rich cultural history, but also the opportunity to be part of a context with creative people, exciting meetings, and inspiration. Rejmyre Art LAB’s Center for Peripheral Studies is a long-term, place-based, artistic research project, co-founded by artists Daniel Peltz and Sissi Westerberg in 2009. They come together to explore issues of vital concern through and with our varied artistic practices. They utilize an ensemble residency model to conduct this research, coming together to collectively think about aspects of the complex existence in this place and time. As an artist-run organisation, the purpose of their work together in Rejmyre has been to create a post-institutional teaching and learning space for ourselves, and others, to continue to grow, engage in sustained critique and explore topics of collective interest. Their research strands have emerged from time together and thus follow a loose, associative line from one to the other. Rejmyre Art Lab’s programming is born of a long-term engagement with and commitment to the village of Rejmyre in the Östergötland region of Sweden. Rejmyre Art Lab’s residency program is run and constructed by artists in response to our own needs and changing modes of production. Their residencies often consist of a mix of dedicated time for developing ideas and work, collaborative exercises, intensive peer critique, and co-hosting the group through cooking and caring for each other. In an effort to explore alternatives to the pervasive ideology of individualism in contemporary art practice, Rejmyre Art Lab has adopted a model they refer to as ensemble residencies, borrowing the notion of the ensemble that is far more common in performance practices. Within this model, they commit to explore topics together in a small group, at least at the outset of an investigation, and to welcome the members of the ensemble into the development process of the work. In this spirit, each member, of the selected refuging ensemble, will be asked to design an exercise, based on their own artistic practice, that engages the other members in their interests within the theme. One of the organisation’s primary research themes has, since 2018, been refuging: an exploration of how giving/taking refuge, as an act and practice, can be developed and facilitated through multiple artistic interactions and interventions. The theme has been developed by the project’s research leader Daniel Peltz, who, together with artistic director Sissi Westerberg, will introduce the theme and projects developed thus far during the ensemble residency week. Refuging is a call to action for artists to develop the practice of giving/taking refuge. The initiator of this project, the U.S./Swedish artist Daniel Peltz, asks us to reconsider the notion of refuge, not as a noun (a refuge, a refugee, etc.) but as a verb, as a vital, inherently reciprocal set of actions. He asks us “how might we, as artists, use this thin sliver of time, while the worst impacts of climate change are still in the future, to develop our capacity as a society to give and to take refuge?” Refuging takes the form of a series of productions-in-residence, that will result in a broadly distributed refuging toolkit, a set of artist-shaped models for how to do this complicated work of refuging. Peltz writes, “perhaps in the not-too-distant future, people facing the need to refuge will pick up this toolkit and say, ‘I heard they tried it this way in Rejmyre.’” Their activities include a post-MFA fellowship program, an international artist residency program, a platform for experimental and conceptual glass projects in the Reijmyre Glass Factory, public seminars, our pedagogical program Konstlabbet, exhibitions in Konsthallen Engelska Magasinet and a program of installations in and around the town of Rejmyre. Their installation program attempts to re-radicalize the notion of site-specificity through a commitment to a philosophy of embedded installation in which there is an element of co-inhabitation and inseparable dependence at play in the relationship between an artwork and our site.
