The Maltings (Berwick) Trust and Newcastle University’s Centre for Rural Economy (CRE) and Institute for Creative Arts Practice have an ongoing programme of artist residencies and commissions that supports the exchange and sharing of knowledge between the artist and researchers to inform critical responses to contemporary rural issues. Importantly, the programme enables new and unexpected dialogues, flows of ideas and exchanges between creative arts practitioners, individuals, communities, and researchers and students at the university.
The Muzychi Expanded History project is a private residency program supported and organized by the artist Alevtina Kakhidze. It is taking place in the village of Muzychi, an hour away from Kyiv with public transportation. The studio and accommodation of the resident are personally lent by Alevtina Kakhidze, residency coordinator and neighbor. Due to the qualities of the residency location and context, no specific project or exhibition is expected from the resident, although the program is open to any kind of initiatives and ideas. The resident biography and work will also be included in the book to be published ‘Expanded History of Muzychi, a history of the residencies in Muzychi through the years. The whole concept of the residency program is that Alevtina lends her own studio for the period of the artist’s stay, working in this period of time from the house next door. Alevtina's personal items are hidden inside the furniture, which consists of wooden cubes and a storage-bed, for the comfort of the resident not to be surrounded with them. There are three Central Asian Shepherd dogs in the area. Residents can receive a small workshop on request about how to behave with and befriend them. In case of someone having fear of dogs, there is an additional exit to a residential house, which does not allow the residents to encounter them again. They are loud and audible, and in Ukrainian villages people have dogs outside.

The residency programs are established to support both artists and nature lovers by offering them a chance to have a peaceful place to create and grow within nature. The Residency Programs allows each visitor to experience their place, the surroundings and find their muse in the silence of the night. We believe that nature is a great inspiration for artistic expression and learning. We can confirm ... it really is! Being for a while at the place where the clouds are born provides new inspiration for life.

The Ou-telier is a personable and process based experience; a quiet place to decompress, experiment, research, play, and make space to develop new ideas. The building was a boatbuilding workshop, so you can feel the history in the old fir floors and layers of resin. Fall asleep to the sound of the creek going by, and wake up to the green of Maple trees and ivy overlooking the water. When taking breaks from the studio, spend time in the patio garden or walk ‘The Great Trail’ nearby. We are deeply grateful to call the Cowichan Valley home, and respectfully acknowledge that these lands are part of the traditional Coast Salish territory of the Quw’utsun and the Hul’qumin’num Treaty Group including T'Sou-Ke, Malahat, Halalt, S'tzuminus, Penelakut, Lyackson, Co We hope to share our journey with you by making an inclusive community space where together we can create and experience the wonderful world of art.

The Residency Project (TRP) provides time and space in support of creative research, artistic experimentation, and arts-based community engagement with an emphasis on creating opportunities for practitioners who are traditionally underrepresented in the arts—women, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists, artists with disabilities, and parents—as well as artists who give consideration to the environmental impact of their work and who actively pursue sustainable practices. The residencies are not medium-specific and are perfect for creative practitioners from many different disciplinary backgrounds or with a cross-disciplinary practice. Visual artists, writers, curators, social practice artists, performance artists, sound artists, musicians, filmmakers, etc., regardless of their races, ethnicities, national origins/citizenship (international applicants are welcome), religious affiliations, gender identities, and sexual orientations are all welcome to apply.
The Romanian Association of Contemporary Art (ARAC) is a non-profit organization founded in June 2012, in order to produce and promote contemporary art in Romania and abroad. The team of ARAC supports and promotes contemporary Romanian artists by attracting funds in order to ensure financial resources – as part of ARAC's mission statement. An important objective of ARAC is to facilitate international cultural exchanges with artistic environments from other countries participating in festivals, fairs, residencies or any event that relates to contemporary art. ARAC is offering a residency opportunity for an artist to freely develop artworks for an exhibition in Bucharest. ARAC Art & Residency aims to introduce international artists and curators to the Romanian cultural environment. During its two-year programme starting in 2020, the project will feature artistic residencies, exhibitions, video & performance focused events and talks. The themes of this year’s residency and of the programme at large, are focused on climate change, migration and technology development. Applicants are invited to make project proposals on one of the three main themes. The residency is open to artists of any age, sex, race or nationality, working in any medium of contemporary art. The selection committee – a panel of contemporary art curators and artists – will review the applications and select the successful candidates in one session. The successful candidate is expected to reside and work in Bucharest for six weeks. At the end of the artistic residency period, the artist is expected to show the works produced during the residency in an exhibition at Anca Poterasu Gallery with the newly produced works.

Residencies range from 2 days to 2 weeks in length and are offered June through August. You will be asked to list at least two specific date ranges that you'd like to come to Sable that fall within the following dates: -June 13 - 19 -June 20 - 26 -July 2 - 23 -August 6 - 30 The Sable Project is designed to unleash creativity by removing the usual obstacles that keep artists from creating- space, time, and supplies- while providing new influences in an inspiring environment. By placing our Artists in an off-grid living situation that is usually an extreme departure from their normal lives (that means no electricity, internet or even cell phone service), we aim to challenge them, break down routine creative habits, and offer the opportunity to build up new and exciting processes instead. This project takes those involved out of their comfort zone, asks them to work in innovative ways, live in community, and engage deeply with their surroundings.

The Unifiedfield / el campo unificado is an independent art space and artist-run organization focusing on the experimental aspects of sound, video and performance art. They observe the world as a network of interdependent connections and they understand artistic practice as a vehicle that can transform life, the relation with ourselves, society, and the natural world. It previously occupied a traditional complex amongst rice fields in Yogyakarta (Indonesia), subsequently moving into a cave in Granada (Spain) before settling in an antique building nestled in Granada’s historic Moorish quarters, the Albayzín, where it ran an artist residency for three years. In 2013, The Unifiedfield initiated its Nomadic Artist-in-Residence Program in The Philippines where is currently working in collaboration with Balud Art Network. The Unifiedfield / el campo unificado is about to launch its third residency program and the first edition of an annual arts festival in Castellar de la Frontera, Cádiz (Spain). In October - November 2017, six international artists will coincide in an Andalusian home at a medieval fortress in the heart of Los Alcornocales Natural Park. For this program, artists are invited to work out of their comfort zone to experiment with collaborative processes and ephemeral interventions in the village and the natural surroundings. Besides the main residency in Castellar, there is also the possibility to develop a project in two different settings during other periods: Granada city: the residency will take place at an old charming apartment in Albayzín - similar to the one they had in their former residency in Granada between 2012 and 2014. This new program will focus on relational art projects in San Miguel Alto where The Unifiedfield is starting a community garden. A dome in a village in Ávila, near Madrid: for projects which use the dome as a Temporary Autonomous Zone for internal experiences / art processes to happen in nature.

Artists need creative spaces where they can meet, exchange ideas and work together. Since these spaces-physically and mentally-are becoming increasingly limited in New York City, the:artist:network was founded. The loft studios and gallery function as vibrant, interactive think-tanks where New York based and international artists work, live and show their creations.
