Matuya is an artist residency program in initiated by photographer and music researcher Mirjam Wirz in San Jacinto, a vivid village in Colombia’s Caribbean region. San Jacinto, in the Montes de María hills surrounded by dry tropical forest, is known for its rich cultural heritage, traditional weaving, and as a birthplace of gaita and cumbia music, including the famous Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto. Located close to Cartagena and Barranquilla, the village hosts vibrant festivals celebrating music, literature, and oral traditions throughout the year. The residency takes place at Casa Matuya, an ecologically built ensemble of clay with handcrafted roofs, situated on the edge of the village within walking distance of San Jacinto’s main plaza. Surrounded by greenery and open landscapes, the house offers a peaceful environment for concentration, reflection, and artistic exchange. Casa Matuya is inhabited and hosted by Mirjam Wirz, whose long-standing engagement with cumbia culture and wide local and international network can become a valuable resource for residents who wish to engage more deeply with the region, its music, and its communities. The residency welcomes visual artists, musicians, performers, writers, and artistic researchers, with a focus on transdisciplinary practice. Matuya provides artist residencies for focused individual work and opportunities for collaboration and exchange within the local cultural context and the natural environment. It is expected that resident artists should have at least a basic knowledge of Spanish. Matuya offers artists space and time to slow down in a bright rural village and welcoming community—fostering focus, openness and meaningful connections.

The Cultural Center of Creació Casa Planas is the result of the efforts of three creatives to restore an old photography factory and transform it into a necessary platform for the city of Palma. Casa Plan promote culture by creating a platform for experimentation, research and creativity. Through visual, musical and scenic art shows that we organize from Casa Planas, there is a constant criticism of the ways of interpreting the culture and the "museification" of it, questioning the formal and aesthetic registers of art. At the Creation Centre Casa Planas, it is available to have research residencies for creators and thinkers around art. The duration varies depending on the needs of the project. Art mediation projects that have a direct social relationship with our field of work and our neighbourhood, or projects that are related to the theme of archives, postcards, landscape, tourism and memory and which bring life into the Casa Planas archive and keep it from falling into oblivion, are especially valued. There is a special focus on the areas of visual media, performance and art mediation. Casa Planas develops workspaces, research processes, the possibility of roundtables, knowledge-sharing workshops, meetings between artists, curators, collectives and other professionals in the sector in this programme.

CASTRO is an experimental learning program based in Rome. It provides development opportunities and workspace to artists and researchers. It also runs learning activities and hosts a range of cultural events for and with everyone. The CASTRO Studio Program is an educational program which hosts a number of artists and researchers offering them a workspace and activities tailored to their practice. Amongst the activities are: tutorials, group tutorials, studio visits, guided tours of Rome based on fellow research, workshops with local artisans of traditional Roman practices, and open studios. CASTRO’s programming is articulated on 2 independent tracks: one is open to the public and the second to the artists and researchers who win the fellowships. All fellowships offer a studio, educational activities and pedagogical guidance. The studio is intended as a workplace, it is not possible to live at CASTRO. Fellows will have regular meetings with a tutor who will follow their research and regular meetings with other fellows and with the CASTRO Team. As CASTRO offers a one-to-one program, the Team members will plan the educational activities (studio visits, field trips, tutorials, group tutorials, CRITS) together with their Fellow during individual meetings. The CASTRO team will evaluate the proposals, agreeing on the possible budget and the modalities of the event. CASTRO offers 5 fellowships that go from the 19th of February to the 23rd of June 2024. The EXTENDED Fellowship is an opportunity for artists working with an interdisciplinary approach to art who intend to bring their artistic practice to Rome. An interdisciplinary approach includes, but is not limited to: socially engaged projects, performance, and site-specific projects. The MEDIA Fellowship is an opportunity for artists working with media that includes, but is not limited to: video, sound, publishing projects who intend to bring their artistic practice to Rome. The LOCAL fellowship is a unique opportunity for artists with proven ties to local institutions or to Rome in general and want to continue developing their artistic practice in Rome. The INTERNATIONAL Fellowship is an opportunity for international artists who want to bring their artistic practice to Rome. The Fellowship is supported by Stella Scarpellini, a patron of CASTRO, who will play an important role in the selection of the Fellowship holder, after pre-selection by the jury members. The EMERGENT Fellowship is an opportunity for artists who have recently completed their artistic studies, or who are at the beginning of their studio practice, and intend to develop their artistic practice in Rome. On top of the Studio Program Fellowships this year CASTRO offers permanent opportunities. These Fellowships are not subject to specific timings and therefore have no deadline. However, they are subject to availability. The selection for this opportunity will be conducted exclusively by the CASTRO Team.
