AllArtNow is considered to be the first independent collective space in Syria for visual arts, multimedia and contemporary arts. Founded in 2005, the initiative aims to create greater opportunities for emerging Syrian artists and the development of the contemporary arts practice in Syria. The initial focus of the organisation was to establish virtual links with the international art world by Internet. Through the tenacity of AllArtNow’s founder and curator Abir Boukhari, this resulted in numerous exhibitions, training and workshops for Syrian artists abroad. In the last two years, AllArtNow’s work has expanded from virtual exchanges to physical interactions with local artists and audiences. A neglected house in the old city of Damascus now serves as AllArtNow’s laboratory for art. It is a hub for emerging artistic practice and serves as a meeting point for local and international artists to exchange ideas and form collaborations. Since July 2012, allartnow closed its door in Syria to open it to Syrian refugee families and starts to work in different places in the world as a nomdic space. This residency was designed to allow emerging contemporary artists time and space to create new work exploring their practice. Artists may submit a proposal of how they intend to utilize the space as a studio to create new work or a specific project. The residency will culminate in a solo closing reception that is promoted across our extensive network. Proposals should have a contemporary art focus showing experimentation and career reach for the artist. We are especially interested in projects that involve conceptual art, practice or theory or involve the public in their creative process. Program Goals: To offer support and space to artists and encourage them to experiment and explore their concepts amongst a community of artists as they move their work forward in the contemporary art world
Founded in 2012 by visual artist Alexandra Ungern, Alê Espaço de Arte was born as a new proposal in the contemporary art scene. Its objective is to provide a laboratory, open to the public, for artistic and curatorial experiments. In addition to being an alternative to existing institutions, this space in Brooklin, south zone, is part of the field of visual arts with the implementation of courses, lectures, conversations, exhibitions and artistic residencies. The space has already sponsored several exhibitions with free entry and also offers artistic guidance for artists, and courses in digital photography, monotype, painting, mosaic and watercolor, among others. It has an artistic residency program where the artist has the opportunity to expand their research with partner curators. O Alê Espaço de Arte located in São Paulo, promotes an artistic residency program that offers space and resources for artists to develop their projects in an inspiring and vibrant environment, providing the opportunity for total immersion in the creative process and local culture. Furthermore, there is the possibility of sharing and interacting with other artists, curators and other art spaces, promoting an enriching and collaborative dialogue. The artistic residency project aims to provide artists with an opportunity to expand their research, take risks, share and realize new ideas. The artist-in-residence receives a set-up studio and the support of the team. During this period, participants are encouraged to share their ideas and immerse themselves in the cultural scene of the city of São Paulo. The research can be monitored by one of our supervisors: Alexandra Ungern, Isabel Villalba or Paulo Gallina.
