About the magazine

A-minor Magazine is an independent online publication founded in 2016 by a collective of poets and visual artists seeking a space for work that resists easy categorization. Its ethos is rooted in the belief that the most vital art emerges from the margins—from the minor key—where formal experimentation and emotional precision intersect. The magazine publishes poetry, short prose, and visual art on a rolling basis, with a particular interest in cross-disciplinary practices and works that engage with the politics of language and image. Each issue is curated around an intuitive thematic thread rather than a rigid prompt, allowing for a conversation between contributors that feels organic and unforced.

Editorial focus

Flash fiction, poetry, mixed genre works, art/text and artwork. Tastes lean toward surreal, experimental, ambivalent, darkly lyrical, and wildly imaginative.

Unsolicited submissionsYes

Before submitting, read at least two recent issues to understand the magazine's aesthetic range—it favors work that is formally inventive yet emotionally resonant, and tends to avoid straightforward narrative or conventional lyricism. Send no more than five poems or one prose piece under 3,000 words, along with a brief bio and a note on any visual elements. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw promptly if accepted elsewhere. Response times vary from two weeks to three months; a gentle query after 90 days is appropriate. The editors appreciate cover letters that are concise and specific about how your work engages with the magazine's ethos, rather than generic praise.

Read some back issues to get a sense of the magazine’s editorial drift. We seek writing that is unconventional, succinct, and emotive.
